This article is nearly two years old and was factual at the time of the writing. Criticizing it in your condescending fashion would be like calling a person who wrote a PC Magazine article in 2006 an idiot because two terms had changed in the intervening years.

Two things:

First, the very title of this article. The author is in fact listing ADD-ONS, which are not PLUG-INS. The fact that the author does not know the difference pretty much makes me not trust any technological advice he's giving me.

Secondly, "Gmail Space"? There is no such thing. The author is in fact referring to an ADD-ON called "Gspace." Their website explicitly states that they are in no way affiliated with Google (the makers of Gmail). This ADD-ON, incidentally, has gotten terrible reviews, from people who had files erased on their hard-drive because of it.

Another great Firefox plugin is Adblock Plus. It will take the ads inside the page (not just pop-up ads) and stops them from loading. It saves a ton of loading time for websites and you don't have to see all the annoying ads.

If you know anyone that gets ocular migraines or has epilepsy - this is a MUST. Some of the flashing ads can actually trigger seizures or migraines in people and can be extremely helpful for them.

@rhbee

Yes, when a page tries to open a pop-up, there is a bar displayed at the top of the page which gives you options such as "always allow pop-ups from this.page.com", "display this pop-up", and "never display pop-ups from this.page.com".

Excellent extensions! I love the Book Burro and FareFirst extensions. This will really save me money as I have been looking for low fare flights. Thanks!

Speaking of popups and blockers, does Firefox allow you to disable this function? I use several applications that abort when they confront a popup block. I even have one, Quickbooks, that I have to use the control key to overcome this sensitivity.

I have several computers and used Gmail Space to share files between them until I discovered the miraculous Hamachi, which easily creates a secure virtual network linking any set of computers having internet access. My office computer, which is always on, stores files in a shared folder. Using Hamachi, I can read/write access those files directly from any other computer on my virtual network, just as if the shared folder existed on the other computer. There is no need to remember to manually upload/download the latest version of a file as in GSpace.
