Ten Personal Finance Sites I Can’t Live Without #5: Divorce to Financial Freedom 1comment
The Simple Dollar is celebrating this weekend after Thanksgiving with a review of ten personal finance sites that I visit every day without fail. This is a bit of an unusual pick; it doesn’t typically show up on lists of the “best” personal finance sites. The fact of the matter is that Divorce to Financial Freedom is a hidden gem, a diamond in the rough, if you will.
The site isn’t written by someone trying to sound professional; the voice is that of a real divorcee who is proud of who she is, not someone attempting to cloak their voice in the nuances of professional writing. The writer of Divorce to Financial Freedom has many very different perspectives than mine; she’s been through the financial and emotional tragedy of a divorce and came out the other side having learned some real lessons about life. She’s remarried and carries with her a strong female voice, one that demands a fair shake for her, her new husband, and her children as well. This perspective teaches me new things on an almost daily basis.
This site is essential to me because it is alive in a sense that few blogs are. There is a beautiful humanity to all of it, taking something that is often so cut and dried as personal finance is and adding this human element. The author of Divorce to Financial Freedom, in her own way, has created an indispensable site, not for detailed advice and personal finance insight, but in the humanity of applying it in a real life.
