PPP and other paid review programs aren't automatically bad. In my eyes, as long as I'm not *required* to write the review a certain way, and as long as it's disclosed, I don't see the problem. Every time I write a sponsored post, the opinion is mine, whether good or bad, and there is a disclosure at the top of the post - so there's no question that it's sponsored. Done properly, I don't think these posts ruin a blog. Done improperly, they absolutely can.

I'm not fond of fish bones, but I'm not going to stop eating great fish because of that, when all it takes is picking out a few bones to get to the good stuff. I don't see any reason to throw out everything someone writes simply because some of their posts are paid and they mark them accordingly. Skip the PPP's if you want, but why throw out a good writer or call their trust into question if s/he is being honest about which ones are paid. Advertisers pay for people's opinions. Does it make me a fake if I give mine and get paid to do so once in a while amongst my other normal posting (that hasn't changed since my blog opened)? How does that make me unworthy of trust?

I have come across a few blogs with pay per post and taken them off my bloglines list. Even if they put PPP or admit that it's pay per post, goodbye. If I wanted to read that kind of stuff I could just read ads and press releases.

Honestly, I haven't stumbled on too many pay per post blogs...so I don't really have a strong opinion on such blogs. However, a couple of those I visit..usually put some marking like "PPP" or "pay per post" on that particular post, and invariably I tend to ignore such posts, so never really gave a thought of deleting them from my reading list. :)

So how do you really feel about PayPerPost? I imagine your position will generate somewhat of a stir in the blogging community, which is great. Debate gets the issues out in the open.

My take. I'm not opposed to a blogger being paid for a post as long as they label it as such. If these are sprinkled in with original, unbiased content they're not so bad. However, if it comprises the majority of the site, as you say, there are many other blogs to choose from.

Many of us spend considerable time providing personal finance information to others and it would be nice to receive some compensation for this. One thing problogger.net recommends is getting some blogging buddies that you check in with occasionally for some objective advice on whether you're "selling out" with your advertising.

I look forward to hearing what everyone else has to say about this topic!
