Leaving the AC off is a good idea if the trafic around is low, and conditions are milder outside. Else its better to be confortable while driving with a bit of AC functioning.

I save a lot on my evening commute by not having a car and walking, but that's just me! ;)

I don't have much experience with it, but I've heard good things about sites like http://www.gasbuddy.com/ that shows the price trends within your area.

Not sure about the U.S., but here in Canada they adjust gasoline purchases to take into account temperature differences. Pumps here have stickers saying "this register has been volume corrected to 15 degrees celsius." So in Canada,at least, you don't get that advantage.

Another tip that kind of piggy backs on "Leave the air conditioning off" is to find a shady spot to park as you pull into work in the morning.

Although it doesn't apply at this time of the year, parking in the shade can drastically drop the temperature inside your car and help you cut back on AC usage.
