I first bought this book on my dad's suggestion after getting my first "real" job after University. I thought it was fantastic for me at the time, but I understand what you mean about it being simplistic. I'd still highly recommend it as the _first_ personal finance book that a person who is clueless about personal finance should read. The story-telling style was a little bit tiring at times, but it made me feel like personal finance could be something a man-on-the-street could understand, not just Wall/Bay St. Big Wigs with million-dollar bonuses.

One thing I really liked about the book is that it refers to Canadian investments. A lot of the personal finance books out there don't have Canadian editions, and the terms can get confusing. For instance, I have no idea what a Roth IRA is or how it compares to an RRSP. Now that I know more about personal finance, I could do extra research to compare Roth IRAs to RRSPs, but when I first started out, this would have been a daunting task.

Great review. Keep up the good work.

I was given this book as a gift when I was 19. I had no idea what RRSPs were, or how to save money and plan for the future. I read this book and I absolutely loved it! I agree that the dialogue is sub-par and the story couldn't get much worse, however I found that it explained things in a very basic language that even I, a teenager, could understand. The youth of today are confused by the terminology and ideas behind saving and this book explains both in a very comprehensible book. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to get started with investing but doesn't know where!
