I'm a 29 yo graduate student living in a college town and have recently made a return to babysitting after a 5+ year hiatus. The money is just too good to pass up, it's tax free and I can accept jobs according to my schedule. I was shocked to be offered $10 / hour, but the more I talk to people, the more I'm finding out this is the going rate. Some parents prefer and older, college educated babysitter (esp if she can drive herself to their house) and are willing to pay a decent rate. What's better is that I can do homework after the kids are asleep.. and make money at the same time. If she likes kids has she considered babysitting? Childcare is lucrative, especially if you have a degree (or are working towards one). If she has a good relationhip with any of herprofessors, that's a good place to start. Even though I have been out of college a few years, I posted the desire to babysit on craigslist just to make a little spending money without any giant committment. I found a family I liked and clicked with and now get paid $12 an hour, under the table, to sit on my bum and watch a movie while the 2 little kids are in bed.
