The Consumer Reports article on Sam's and Costco didn't say that Sam's was cheaper. At least no where in the article I read.

Stephens dislike could be due to the fact that Wal-Mart/Sam's Club doesn't pay their employees enough and makes them pay through the nose for the benefits they do get. Something that Costco with fewer stores, can manage to pay decent wages give better benefits. Why can't Wally World?

I keep a subscription to CR just for access to their website. I'd almost rather not get the magazines as I consider that a waste of paper. I'd much rather just go to the website when I'm about to make a purchase and research than find out after the fact that I made a good decision.

So don't ignore the CR website, it's a great resource to have.

I'd like to see that dietitian article since my wife is an RD. I subscribe to consumerreports.org, so can I access the article as a subscriber online? I did a search on their site but couldn't find it.

I also just posted 2 articles about replacing an old lawnmower (versus fixing it). By waiting a week, I was able to get an almost new lawnmower for about $50, instead of its original $400 retail. I have my wife to thank for that one.

After a trip to Paris went horribly wrong, resulting in an eye infection that left me hospitalized and required a return trip to the U.S., I will never again go without travel insurance. Otherwise, I agree with everything. Great web site, I wish I'd discovered it sooner. Thanks, Lifehacker!

I think the main purpose of travel insurance is to cover trip cancellation--to reimburse you if you become sick or injured before an expensive, prepaid trip that offers no refunds. The most common use of such insurance is probably for cruises.

Plonkee's example of travel abroad is another good one--if you're going to drive into Mexico, for example, U.S. automobile insurance will not cover you, and you need to purchase Mexican auto insurance. But it's worth checking to see if your health and homeowner's insurance covers you while traveling in other countries.

Caveat to the travel insurance thing, that definitely doesn't apply if you are from the UK and travel abroad. In fact, does it apply if you travel abroad in general (I'm thinking repatriation costs etc)?
