Hey, I’ve always been a big TMBG fan, too. I stopped going to the concerts when I was in my 20s and the average age of the other concertgoers was 15… but not only did I own their albums and EPs, but an enormous collection of “bootlegs…”

Check out their website. They have a free podcast that they update often enough. It’s kind of a throw back to their old Dial-A-Song stuff (which they still do as well, I believe)

I haven’t picked up the latest album, but The Spine (the last one) was worth every penny.

I’ve had an advance copy of The Else for a while now, and it’s really quite good.

They are playing a free concert today (Thursday) until Sunday at the Max M. Fisher Music Center in Detroit (along with Hugh Masekela, Neville Brothers, Steel Pulse, and the Eddie Palmieri Salsa Band. I was thinking of maybe going Sunday to see TMBG.

I knew there was a reason I was subscribed to your blog. I’ve been a fan of TMBG for the better part of my life.

PS. The Else isn’t that good. It’s the only album I haven’t bought. I probably will eventually, out of a feeling of duty.

When I was in high school, my friends and I actually had a crazy little dance that we did to “Particle Man”.

TMBG day, yay! The new album “The Else” is my first CD for 2007, and may be my only one. As time goes on I am just happy to dive into the collection I have, but with kiddos (maybe this is your case too) what I choose ot listen to around them is pretty limited.

Also, do you know they are working on a follow up kiddie DVD “Here come the 1, 2, 3s!”

I wasn’t a TMBG fan, but I know what you mean about passing on CDs that you once HAD to own. Every time I look at the CD collection I assembled in my teens and twenties, I think “whew – each one of those cost $11.99, $12.99, etc. – think how much that would be worth today…”

It’s not a fun thought, particularly considering I don’t like half of that music anymore. Still love the Cure, though.

Oh, and TMBG sing the theme song to “Higglytown Heroes”, which is on right after “The Wiggles” (the only TV show my one-year old watches). So we hear the theme song most days, and it’s almost automatically an occasion for a one-year old dance party…
