I'm in the thick of a good deal of your cooking suggestions. My husband and I have been really frugal for the last month and it's a good feeling. I'm also spending more time at home than I was, also a good thing.

If you have any ideas on a collaborative food blog, let me know. I would love to do something like that, and if you don't have the time to devote full attention to it, maybe we could tackle it together.

There are lots of cheaper ways to run half marathons. Some races give shirts that are moisture-wicking. Having 2-3 should be enough. As for the nipples, just use band-aids. This month's runner's world has an article about a guy who gets two marathons out of one set of band-aids. Glide is fine, but try Vaseline. After 13 miles your going to want a shower very much and so the petroleum base in Vaseline can come off then. Race entry fees are pretty high. The price for running gets really high when you start flying out of your area to run. Flights, cars, hotels, meals out--makes $491 seem like a bargain!

When I was asked by multiple people in my neighborhood if I was okay because blood was soaking through my shirt due to a bleeding nipple, I thought it would be a good idea to do something about that. Seriously.

Re: Cost of a half-marathon:

-First, energy drinks and "sports beans" are not at all necessary for training or race day. Same goes for "nipple protectors" and ultraglide (toughen up). A pair of running shoes should be good for 500 miles, which should cover training and the race itself with plenty of mileage to spare (not just another 5k!). $491 to train for and run a half-marathon is not unreasonble, especially as the health benefits and the social aspects are an important (though non-financial) return.
