I bought a 5-year old luxery SUV for less than the equivalent 5-year old toyota 4Runner would have cost me. There are only a few SUVs that can accommodate my very tall husband. This vehicle is an absolute pleasure to drive and I saved a couple thousand bucks. (An SUV is mandatory equipment to get to my house 9 months of the year). If you want a lexus, look into one used. It might not be as bad as you think and really, it's a toyota so it's a great car!

Good luck with baby! I'm due the end of October.

I wish you and your wife well with the upcoming arrival of baby girl!

I loved your retro post. My relatives are very much into appearances. It does bothers me sometimes that they seem to enjoy 'the good life' while I'm in a small apartment saving money.

The post motivated me to keep at it and I loved the tips. I'll work on cleaning my car. It is a mess and I realize that it would help me to feel a little better.

I've recently stumbled onto my cure for the Lexus neighbors problem - make visible choices that are clearly beyond reproach within your values, but very different from your neighbors' choices.

(Mine are edible landscaping, clothesline, bicycling, and someday, solar panels.)

That way you can think - 'they're choosing vanilla, I'm choosing chocolate' whenever feeling jealous of whatever they've got now. Sometimes I reward myself with an extra something in 'my flavor' - that way I use their consumerism to fuel my goals.
