Paula, how much would your family have to pay for things that they don't have to pay for now because you are a stay at home mom?

In addition to that amount, there are probably some other things you are providing that your family wouldn't pay for but that makes those hours outside of 9-5 a bit more pleasant or less hectic.

The fundamental tips are well worth reading!

@Paula - my wife is a stay at home mother as well and she helps 'make money' by attempting to take 15-30 minutes out of her day to look for ways to save money in our budget. She doesn't save us to the point of being paid to shop for every item, but she saves us enough to 'add in' a couple hundred dollars a month in various areas in total. The value that she adds to our children's lives is immeasurable and I don't regret her spending that time not working for a wage!

Trent, if you like that "picross" site you should check this out. I've always known the puzzles as "paint by numbers" - from Games magazine.

One question that wasn't brought up in your fundamental tips: how do you calculate your true hourly wage if you are a stay at home mom? Personally, I could have earned a lot more money if I hadn't spent my time with my kids when they were little, and I don't regret a moment of it!
