I second Jack's comments! The book and his work are complete garbage used to appeal to a person's sense of greed, tactics which are most commonly seen in MLM/pyramid scams.

Money does not equate to happiness, it does not replace meaningful relationships and to put money and a quest in pursuit of riches ahead of or on equal par as happiness and fulfilling relationships is as shallow as one can get.

The book isn't worth the paper it's written on - it is useless as a tool for building wealth in any event.

Great post, thank you,
I loved the book, though it isn’t until I read it 3 times and used videos made about the book, to fully comprehend its principles, and fully apply them, daily.

Check http://www.thesecretvideos.tv

to fully understand the science of Thing and Grow Rich.

Hill is an amazing man indeed!

Cheers, Nick

Napoleon Hill is crap. Only MLM and other scammers endorse his book. Not to mention a dozen others who are weak minded and actually feel better/enlightened reading this book. I've joined one MLM thinking that they had a proven business model/lead generation strategies. ALL BOGUS CRAP. I was 19 then. Now 10 years later, I have 2 businesses and I swear that people who are successful in MLM are just successful in scams. Scamming the very people who trust them.

I just finished reading "Think and Grow Rich" about half an hour ago. Thanks for the review - I was worried that I was alone in not loving this book. I really wanted to like it and made myself finish it, because it is a "classic". I found it hard to read though... very slow. Not as inspirational as I'd hoped for either... it could just be that I had heard so much about it that I expected too much from it. I would not have compared it to The Secret though. And it never gave me any thoughts of "get rich quick" schemes either...

The science of getting rich is a great book. Very simple, explains we have to be creative rather than competitve. Think and grow rich has some good chapters, after all Hill studied the lives of over 500 of the wealthiest men of his time. I think he knows what he's talking about, not like the narrow minded people who are putting the book down.

I'm reading the book now and I'm finding it to be very helpful. I truely love books like this because it absolutely shows how strong our mind is. I feel when the person that wrote this artical came in closed minded. I would strongly suggest that you read this book because it will help you reconize the power of your own mind and you can have whatever you truely want out of life. I get the feeling that this person probably has a hard time believing this. If time is all that this author wants he is not aligned with life. Time is life. It is all one. We have to see that we are all rich and are awaiting our pay day. I love the secret also, and SGR. All these are important to show mental strenghth. I suggest you read them all. There is nothing like a testimony. We could all use some inspiration. The bible is also good for that too YOLANDA, but this book can help people of all religions. If you don't read anything else read This book. INSTRUCTION- BE OPEN-MINDED. TRY THE CONCEPTS. START SMALL TO GAIN YOUR CONFIDENCE. THEN GO FOR WHAT YOU HEART DESIRES.

I have read "The Science of Getting Rich" a few times and I feel its just building self confidence and believe and may work on your subconscious mind to create some truth to it.

To those who call "The Science of Getting Rich" a 'classic' --- PLEASE(!) --- Nobody had ever heard of that pamphlet (it's hardly a 'book') until Rhonda Byrne claimed it was her inspiration for, "The Secret." It's not even in the same league as "Think & Grow Rich." Somebody wrote that "The Science of Getting Rich" was a "better book" than T&GR. Only on another planet is that obscure, public domain pamphlet better than "Think & Grow Rich." Everyone in self-development knows Napoleon Hill as the father of Self-Help; nobody had ever heard of this Wattles guy until Rhonda Byrne claimed his pamphlet as her inspiration. What a joke to even compare the two.

I consider Think and Grow Rich as one of the most important books I read while growing up. It had a big effect on me. I don't think this book is merely about self-confidence. What it is mostly focused on are the steps to achieving a goal and how to go about it. I find it immensely practical and useful for all aspects of life.

In fact I believe most of the personal development books we have are derived in one way or another on Think and Grow Rich and its predecessor, 'As a Man Thinketh' which is another classic.

Also, Think and Grow Rich covers only a small subset of what I believe to be Napoleon Hill's better book - The Law of Success. In it he devotes a whole chapter on Failure, which also happens to be my favorite chapter in the book.

I've actually watched The Secret. What a load of bull. The actual "secret" behind people's results is not the visualization itself bringing riches, but the fact that the visualization makes people feel better about themselves, which translates into more productive personal relationships. Translation: if you've got (real, actual, not Oprah-induced) self esteem, then you don't need The Secret.

Someone bought me Napoleon Hill's book for Xmas, and I immediately regifted it. The very next day I landed a new client worth $3000 in services - a lot of money for me. I think that the regifting brought him into my life. ;)

Trent,
I'm sorry to say you didn't do your homework. The basic of the Secret was not Napoleon Hill's "Think and Grow Rich", but it was "The Science of Getting Rich" by Wallace D. Wattles instead; a much better book.
I also credit The Secret (book and CD) with an astounding and unexpected spike in sales, perhaps a result of a completely unbiased and open-minded approach toward its presentation.

I agree that this book is about confidence. It is actually a book that I've need to read from time to time. It does lack technical guides but it does serve a good purpose. Thank God, it is already a classic and as such the content is free for all. Compared to another classics like The Science Of Getting Rich, it is easy to understand. It sums up the whole concept of mind over matter.

By the way, I agree with you one the vagueness of the power of sexual drive.

Actually, if you Google "think and grow rich download" or some variation thereof, you'll find tons of sites where you can download a free copy. So, it's both helpful and easy on the wallet.

It's in the public domain now, so most of the "bought" copies are put out by people repackaging the free text into a "new" edition.

This book, Think and Grow Rich, had a bigger impact on me at the beginning of my career than any other. Most books along the same theme, are merely rewrites of this classic book. Just as good today as the day it was written. Napoleon Hill is the granddaddy of them all.

Greetings,
Think and Grow Rich is available for free as a download on several websites. If you do a simple Google search for the title, a free PDF version should be available.

When you wish upon a starrrrr / Makes no diff'rence who you arrrre....

To quote Bill the Cat's oft-apt aphorism: "Ack ack ack ack ack a-a-a-a-a-c-k!"

Herein lies the problem with the endless flow of self-help books: about 99.8 percent of them are barfiferous. A great deal less time would be wasted reading literature (remember that?) and thinking about human nature and how it influences what we do and what we should do.

Trent, try starting with a guy named Melville, Herman Melville. He has a lot to say that a man with your turn of mind will see is meaningful. If you read him when you were a young pup, try re-reading him now, in the high splendor of your adulthood. You'll be glad you did.

Interesting. I fully agree that The Secret is pure nonsense so I'm glad to hear that this book isn't too similar. I've actually had it on my shelf for years. I received it as a gift, but never felt all that inspired to read it. After your review, I'm no more eager to read it, but maybe some day after I've read all of the other books I have piled up... :)
