As I write this, I’m sitting at the airport waiting on a delayed flight from Denver. I’m supposed to pick up someone on this flight. It’s after midnight, I’m about ready to pass out from exhaustion, and still no arrival. Guess I’ll read some blogs.

I used your ideas about frugality in an adult Sunday school class last Sunday, and people liked it. I think that frugality is about understanding what is truly valuable in life, and it also accounts for the social costs and benefits of decisions.
I like how someone in the comments suggested using the word ‘mindful’ to replace frigal. I think that captures the spirit of the word well.
@Stella: How badly do you need the pension? If your portfolio is large and balanced well, it should carry you through.

You are right. It will be a long time to retirement. Pension is nice, but you gotta enjoy everyday of your life.

I have a dilemma and I wonder what you would think. I have been saving and investing since since I began working, and have accumulated a decent size portfolio. I got a government job last year so that I will get defined-benefit pension benefits on top of my savings. Problem is, I don’t like my job. Should I quit and go back to doing what I was doing in the private sector?
