Just to let you know that I lost what I thought was a very good friend after cutting back on my spending. I started bringing my lunch to work to cut back on money and calories and just really getting tired of fast food. I actually prefer cooking over going out and have for quite some time. You just don't know what is in their food. But anyway, my friend would call and want to go to lunch all the time. When I pretty much quite eating lunch out, she quit calling. She is a stay at home mother and lives 4 blocks from my office. I have suggested maybe just coming to her house and having a sandwich or something, but I haven't had an invite since. She just really likes to go out to eat to get out of the house. So....I guess that's what I was for. Needless to say, I don't hear from her anymore. Very sad. Glad you touched on this topic. It hits really close to home.

Hmm... U2? Joshua Tree? We should make Trent an honorary member of Gen X.

Next he'll be talking about REM.

I knew I liked your blog for some reason. You are a U2 fan like myself! I loved them since the very first time I heard Sunday Bloody Sunday from a neighbors house who was blarring it. You the know the Rattle and Hum movie? The colored part of that movie was shot at Sun Devil Stadium in AZ. I live in Connecticut and my sister lives in Arizona. Well, back when the tickets to that concert were being sold my sister calls me up and says "hey, wanna go to a U2 concert twice?" They played a Sat and Sun night concert to get more footage. The tickets were only 5, yes 5 bucks. So I flew out to AZ and saw them twice. Oh for the love of god I was far away from the stage. But that was the best concert ever. And now years later I get to say I WAS IN THAT MOVIE RATTLE AND HUM!!! lol

My LP has four original signatures on it, all obtained personally after many hours of waiting. Needless to say, it is framed under protective glass and priceless.

You should read No Impact Man (http://noimpactman.typepad.com/blog/). He's just finishing up a year long experiment of sorts, basically attempting to have neutral or positive net impact on the environment. In one post he mentioned that among the unexpected outcomes of his experiment was that their expenses were about cut in half. And that's not to mention the financial implications of being healthier and happier.

Trent were you old enough to own this album on vinyl in 1987? This is my all time fav and I was 16 at that time. I was under the impression you were significantly younger! : )

I can talk about debt and finances with one of my friends, but not the others. I think that my finance friend motivates me to keep working on it and vice versa. We try not to eat out as much and come up with ideas that are cheaper and more enjoyable.

This album has probably had the biggest affect on me than any other.

Did you know a 20th anniversary edition of the Joshua Tree will be released next week?

It's coming out in various formats, of course. The 2CD version if awfully tempting.

Here's the super-deluxe version:
