I think increased confidence is often about action and getting something accomplished. That accomplishment doesn’t need to be wealth and fame and awards, but the ability to follow through on a goal. I don’t think it’s necessarily inherent, but earned through persistence. I also like your point about focus. I think that’s also what often holds us back. What do we -truly- want and are we focused on it and moving towards it?

There is nothing like a healthy dose of self-confidence to get something done. Some people would call it being cocky (those are the people not to hang out with). But being confident in your abilities can help you do anything, and I’m a firm believer that most all of us who are fortunate to not have any mental disabilities are able to do just about anything we have an interest and motivation in.

Has this been answered? Are you going to include this series in your formatted booklets for sale? I would like to print it out for my high school students. If you could adapt it for high schoolers that would even be cooler, but I have low expectations…

As I got older, I stop spending time with negative people. For a while, I did get quite lonely wondering if there was something wrong with me since I cannot seem to keep any friends for longer than a few months. Seriously, finding good friends is like dating. You know after a few months of spending time with new friends if they are keepers. I am happy to say that it is worth the effort to weed out the negative people in your life. Now I have a good group of friends that I respect and spend time with. I always leave an outing feeling happy. And since I am happy, I do not have time for negative thoughts about myself.

Good series you have going here. Something else to think about: allowing yourself to say no when you need to. Sometimes I just keep saying “yes”, and I find myself spread so thin I don’t get anything done. If I can keep myself focused rather than giving in to every diversion, I accomplish much more, and that helps my self esteem.

Great post, Trent. Some people suffer from a lack of self confidence, while others suffer from a lack of realism, thinking they can do anything.

I’ve found that people are more than willing to help you in most cases and this helps build your self confidence. With a lot of help, most people can accomplish almost anything. The key is to be willing to humble yourself enough to ask.

I suffer from imposter syndrome on and off, but most people don’t realise that I don’t actually have that much self-confidence I simply fake it until the confidence comes by itself. Works for me.

I have found that when I surround myself with people that are confident and successful, my image of myself is more positive.
I can’t agree enought aht one shoudl continually surround themselves with successful and confident people.

Someone commented this a few days ago, but after another few articles I have to agree–hate the logo for this series! (otherwise, it is good stuff)

I would like to have increased confidence, but I am not sure that there is a “root cause” or anything. In theory I know I have a lot going for me, but I do get self-conscious still.

My best way to overcome it (so far) is to force myself to do things that I’m nervous about. It usually turns out fine, then next time I”m not worried. Well, I’m less worried :)

But I’ve never actively sought to change this fact about me…. Yet. I think it is time for some self investment!
