Great site and a very well-done review. As someone who is making some moves to the "next chapter" in my life, these tips are definitely helpful.

Keep up the good work!

I've heard the analogy of the rocks and sand before but it included the final filling of the space to be coffee. No matter how much you cram into a day you should always recognize the opportunity to enjoy a cup of coffee.

I really like the idea of setting goals and then microgoals towards each of the goals, but I think it may be too much to expect that you can achieve that many microgoals on a daily basis.

Maybe just selecting 3 to 5 microgoals per day and making sure you rotate among your goals so that you continue to progress on all of them is more realistic.

Great review! Any chance that you have a template that you'd share for your microgoals? (Perhaps in Google Spreadsheets?)

Speaking of the rocks and sand story, don't forget, after you fill up your bucket with boulders, rocks, and sand, you still have more gaps to fill with a Budweiser. There's always time in life to relax and drink a beer.

Nice book review and advice.

Goals can be so daunting. The only way that seem doable for me is if I break them down. I have to take small action steps to achieve things I want to achieve.

I have also learned not to beat myself up if I don't achieve these goals. I remind myself what I have accomplished and continue on becoming a better person.

That's more or less what I've found myself doing, actually. And it works, surprisingly enough--well, more often than not, which I guess is better than it not working at all. The one fuzzy area is still my blog, which I can only work on after 9 pm (the cats and the boyfriend need their time, too). Given that I basically keel over from sheer exhaustion at 11, it's not always one article per day.

7-minutes sounds doable, I love your reviews, I find myself implementing without actually reading the books, I do know however there is good chance of me picking it up when I go to the bookstore. Good summary,

This is exactly the approach I'm taking to starting my computer support business. I'm taking what seems like a daunting and overwhelming undertaking and breaking it down into manageable chunks...slowly completing each thing necessary to get the business off the ground. What's the rush?

Micro-goals sounds like a great idea. We all know that it's better to eat many times in a day rather than one or two biggg meals. Same logic applies to manage personal finances and other stuff. Cheers.

I have been pretty consistent on writing my goals, but I haven't broken them down. I'm going to try it and see how it goes. I'll see if my library has the book so I can examine it myself. Thanks for the review!

Trent,

In my church we have a saying "That by small and simple things great things come to pass." This is exactly what we need to do...the small and simple things. That is what will get us out of debt that is what will help us become "well off" that is what will help us teach our children. The small and simple goals that we reach everyday.

Thanks for the great post. Keep up the Small and simple things and add to the Simple dollar...we all need it.

This looks like a great book, and just what I need right now. I've felt very overwhelmed lately.

I have some great goals, but they are so big that I was having trouble making any progress at all. Creating micro-goals sounds like just the ticket to finally get moving on my goals.

Thanks for the great review!
