It’s probably best not to put your kid’s face and voice out on the internet anyway, especially given the fact that you put a lot of personal details out here. I know Stephanie over at Crockpot365 won’t even post a picture of her kids. Just a thought.

I was thinking of buying Kindle. But then I saw HP Mini Laptop – which costs about the same as Kindle. So could not decide which one to go for and eventually saved money by not buying either one of them.

It seems to me that there is a much simpler and cheaper option to the kindle: a public library. You can get books for free in my city and you don’t have to worry about clutter as you bring them back. Even if they don’t have the book that you want, then they can usually order it in from another library.

I heard in a sermon a few weeks ago that money is an emotional topic for people because we put our faith in money. When you think about it, theology applied or not, we certainly do put our faith in our money.

GOTTA have a REAL book – there is just no substitute for the look, feel and smell of ink on paper. Plus, you can write notes, flag and highlight to your heart’s content. One of my favorite memories is the first time I walked into the Reading Room at the New York Public Library on Fifth Avenue (y’know, the Lions) and that smell hit me and I took a long deep breath! I just love it.

If you read the free books on the Kindle it’s great. But at $10+ a pop with no option to resell or loan to a friend the for-pay books just aren’t worth it yet. I use a book reader on the iPhone to read free books.

But I’m still all about the public library.

I’m old fashioned . . . I love the smell and feel of an actual book. I like having a library of my favorites on hand.

The kindle is interesting to me though. I can see it’s advantages – students, especially . . . but nothing can replace an actual book for me!

I am a very good book shopper though. ;-) I haunt used book stores and the used books on Amazon. I also use paperbackswap and only buy ‘new’ if its a book I really really really want, and I really really really want it in a nice hardback. 9 times out of 10, you can get it on sale, at least 40% off.

I think the kindle device is a bit pricey . . . I would hope that it could be about half that price. I do see uses for it, but as a replacement of my book collection? No way. ;-)

I’m interested in getting a kindle someday – after I pay off some debts. I hope it’ll allow me to get rid of a lot of my physical books and bookcases and ultimately buy a smaller house. Yes, I have LOTS of books.

The little guy is fortunate to have you and your wife to console him with something other than things! I’m 42 and I STILL remember when I turned 6 years old. The only people who came to my birthday were 2 little girls who were neighbors and were 2 and 4. Lots of fun there!
