Trent - don't ditch the book reviews - they're the very posts I never delete!

Have you tried Mark's new time management system - Autofocus? It blows the other ones out of the water for increasing productivity and motivation.
He came out with it on Jan. 5, 2009 - so you just missed it by posting this a couple of weeks earlier. Check it out - www.markforster.net

Trent I love your insight in to not liking the markup of posts. I am the same way. I love idea generation, and outlining, but above that writing is ok, editing is terrible.

Maybe you should consider outsourcing if you don't find traction with the new system.

I've been making a focused effort on saying no, being firm about it and not feeling guilty because I don't have the time or energy to do something asked of me. It's really made in difference in how I manage my time. I find a simple "no, thank you" works instead of trying to offer an elaborate excuse.

Time bursts sounds like something I want to try. I'm definitely going to see how that helps my productivity.

Thanks for sharing!

Sounds good to me too. I definitely suffer from some of the things you mention. I especially like the idea of systematizing everything. I'm going to have a look at the book.

My grandfather has always recommended being a "90-percent-er," meaning try to knock out the top 90% of things you need to get done. The remaining 10% will take care of itself. I've put this into practice with success in my own life as I went from a 100% perfectionist to a 90-percent-er. Enjoyed the review.

Thank you for approaching books on this topic with such healthy, balanced skepticism. Your review holds my attention b/c of this outlook. If formatting is bugging you, I would suggest you consider giving "markdown" a try -- it's a lightweight markup language that converts to html. If memory serves, the blog/site that offers more information is called Daring Fireball. Thanks for writing such useful and encouraging posts!

Trent...
Not usually a fan of book reviews on blogs but this one caught my attention for some reason. I suppose it may have something to do with my affinity for what Forster terms "bursts." I've blogged about how much you can accomplish in just 15 minutes of focused activity - sounds like bursting! I'll have to pick up this one. Thanks again... and happy holidays to you & your family!

Thanks for the review of this book. I'm always hesitant to buy productivity books - they usually don't help at all. This one sounds good... maybe I'll check it out!
