Some people that call themselves value investors, like Bill Miller, do in fact buy the flashy stocks. Overall I would agree with you. I think most value investors today, outside of Warren Buffet, like Michael Price, Seth Klarman, Joel Greenblatt, etc. focus more on small caps, because that's where their competitive advantage lies. A stock is more likely to be mispriced in a normal economy if there aren't 200 analysts following it. “Value investors” have been defined in a lot of different ways.
