Trent,

I went to a meeting this evening where this book was mentioned. I'm thinking that I might need to pick it up. But I'm already working on "Enough Already" and I might end up figuring out that there are 26 letter in the alphabet rather than 24 *grins*

I have to disagree with you Trent. While I LOVED Never Eat Alone, I found Who’s Got Your Back to being a really disappointing follow-up. I agreed with the sentiment of the book but the name dropping was out of control, it was poorly structured and some of the side stories just didn’t make sense (that Yale Nobel prize winning professor-slash-poker player story? I had to reread that 3 times to get the point). My theory is this is his first book without co-author Tahl Raz who co-wrote Never Eat Alone and the Inc article that led to the book deal and Raz’s voice and structure was sorely missing.

At the end of the day, I had to force myself to finish Who’s Got Your Back. What I have noticed though is Ferrazzi is excellent at verbally communicating his ideas in a sharper manner so I will be listening to upcoming vlogs and conference calls he will be leading.

i agree... things just fell into place when it came to my accountability groups. what was deliberate, however, was deciding when and who to commit to.

I don't know that I could go about something like that so cold-bloodedly, my confidantes and mentors have happened a lot more organically. It just would seem very false to me. Also I suspect it would be difficult to actually do like that in step fashion - it would be yet another script we hold in front of us and try to shoehorn events into line, while life goes on higgledy-piggeldy. I've noted that the most frustrated discord-radiating people try to make life fit a pre-scripted chain of events, so I tend to lean away from that tendency.

That said... I can see how this advice would be useful to those of us who feel anxious when reaching out to new people. I suspect if all of us just tried the first few steps, we'd be amazed by how much response we'd get.

I loved reading Never Eat Alone. I'm looking forward to reading this one.

It's interesting how in America we sort mythologize the idea of the rugged individual going out on their own and finding success. I think that keeps a lot of people from letting people "get their back."

I've found that I'm most successful when I have a close group of people around me to offer support and guidance.

This is a true find for me because I've been a huge fan of accountability partners but never thought of an accountability group - which is sounds like this is.

What I really was impressed with was that the author doesn't seem to necessarily suggest we find people that we can leverage financially. In my profession, we talk about "networking" to find new clients and it has never been something I've been good at.

I suppose that's because it's so inauthentic. This seems to be a very different approach

I was talking with some folks about finding accountability partners. Without exception, everyone said that if asked, they'd be on someone's "team". But they all were hesitant to ask someone to help them.

How do we overcome that fear?

Frugal success story; Keith was giving away copies to the first 50 thoughtful reviewers on Amazon. Did any other TSD readers get one?

Thanks for the review. I liked his first book, so I'll give this one a go. Looks like it's already on order at my library, Multnomah County, and I'm #6 in line!
