I’ve tried to keep up with people’s lives over the years, and I send out a midsummer letter in addition to the traditional Xmas letter from my family every year. I struggle, however, with the need to keep things personal, vs. the size of my contacts list.
@Terry – via phone or old fashioned hand written note – get in touch with old friends, coworkers, churchmembers, bowling buddies, hunting partners… Of course, if you only do it when you’re out of work, it may come off as self-serving. It’s more of a lifelong habit to be built.

As a person who spends a lot of time at the computer, that seems the most natural way to let people know you are paying attention and care what they are up to.
