Hi Trent,
I greatly enjoy your book clubs. I feel you write very clear and concise reviews, and I enjoy reading how your personal experiences relate to what you’ve read. I have even gone back through reviews I’ve missed to help me decide about books I’m thinking of buying. I’m sure there are many of us who follow the book club but don’t regularly leave comments. The nice thing is if I’m not interested, I simply click to something else. Keep up the good work!

I don’t get the endless chapter by chapter synopsis of this and all the other books. These authors already wrote the books. Why is this the forum for you to rewrite the same information? One succinct review is enough but week after week of this just seems like sophmoric filler material borderlining on copying. If you look back on the number of comments for each series, you must see the low numbers…take a hint.

I guess it depends on what academic conference you go to but in my field the annual conference is one gab fest. Everyone is socializing and talking. You paint academics with too broad a brush.

Maybe there can be too much of a good thing. Regarding “anchors” maybe I know too many “interesting people” i.e. wait/freelance artists, musicians, writers. Interesting, lots of stories, but the downside is I don’t know, a bit self-involved. You don’t know if they are talking to you as a person, or just because they need to talk or want to promote their various projects. It’s a hard situation right now for artists in this economy too which doesn’t help the mood either.
Give me a good listener any day. They also probably have an interesting story to tell, but won’t tell you in the first five minutes of meeting you.

Compliment is a noun meaning a statement of praise. Complement is a verb meaning to enhance or go well with something. The difference is only one letter, and spellcheck won’t catch it. Gave me a chance to show off my fancy English major though. Huzzah!

LOL Toby. These book reviews are beyond tedious. My middle finger gets sore from scrolling past them. Then I’m tempted to show it to people, and that’s no way to make friends.

Trent, I’m sure some readers look forward to getting this kind of info without buying books, but I also wonder how the authors might feel. Please tell us how to make our own toothpaste or trap wombats or *anything* instead. I would LOVE to read one of your short stories, perhaps one incorporating frugality. I’m glad you’re super-literate and committed to personal growth, but inspirational tomes are doomed to lose some zest secondhand.

Off I go to eat alone… Hmmmmm…wombat stew?

The most thought-provoking part of this for me was the idea of what makes you interesting. What if your story isn’t one you want to tell to a wide audience? There are parts of my story that I have decided not to talk about until my parents, or at least my dad, pass on. Although the parts of my story that I DO share once caused a boss of mine to stop and say, “You’re a very interesting person,” to which I replied, “I’m going to take that in the best possible way.”

That you can put your story so succinctly shows that you have thought it out. That is a challenge.

my copy arrived from the library. I’ll begin it soon, and then go back to read your thoughts on chapters covered.

Being interesting – is there any other way to be? I don’t think so. I am one of those folks that want to learn something new, hear a new story from someone, and just engage in the day.

I’m really looking forward to the branding chapter. It sounds like another one that might be more relevant to me right now, as I’m always being told to create a brand, then work hard to market and sell that brand.

So far, the book doesn’t seem that good to me…. I just don’t think I’m at a point where any of what I could take away from it applies. (It’d be more beneficial to me to just file it away and work on beating my shyness instead, so that I can use it all later on.)
