Not to pile onto your misery, Trent, but I have heard now numerous times that often what we call a "stomach bug" is really some form of food poisoning. Maybe not in this case. But double down on food safety for a bit, and think hard about whether any leftovers (which I know you love to use and reuse) have either not been getting chilled quickly enough or heated up hot enough for long enough.

To all of you who were complaining about the shelter thing; does this satisfy you? Trent, sorry to hear about your illness. The fact that my favorite blog was available each morning says a lot of great things about your work habits, preparedness and resourcefulness. Obviously, you were prepared to keep the blog going in an emergency. I'm gonna have to do more of your organizing tips. Thanks for a great blog.

Last year, my cousin had a stomach virus that went on for a week and half before she went to the doctor. It turned out she had a clostridium difficile bacteria that masqueraded as a very prolonged bout of bloating, and very foul diarrhea. She was trying to save a dime by treating it with immodium, but it wound up costing a fortune after they took out a long section of bowel and Sara wound up with a colostomy bag. Now she's got that lifelong hassle and expense to deal with.
A lot of doctors think that it is Norovirus, but it's not.

Make sure your family hasn't caught H1N1--check with your doctor. I went to my doc yesterday, told I'd had a 102F temp twice in November. And she told me that often there are after-infections due to the Flu. Guess what I had? I'm now taking special antibiotics to clear up a persistent infection that I didn't know I had! Anyhow, it's worth checking into. My family got sick in domino fashion, too.

As you seem to link elite colleges with expensive ones (and as this is a finance blog), it is worth noting that the study about colleges states:

“there is a higher payoff to attending a more expensive school for children from low-income families”
and:
“For the pooled sample of men and women, these models indicate that students who attend higher tuition schools earn more after entering the labor market.”

So, while an elite college doesn’t help, apparently going to the bargain college isn't statistically a good idea either.

The study that's described in the "value of an elite college" link is the same one that was linked to in the post, "It's not the school, it's the student," back in November. It seems weird that the same paper would come up twice in a short period like that, especially since the paper itself is more than 10 years old.

And I still think it's worth noting that the paper's analysis dealt with students who started college in 1976. And a lot of things have changed since then, so the results may or may not be applicable to students going to college today or in the future.
