Trent, this really hits home to me. I lost my last giving grandparent (my paternal grandma) this past Tuesday. She was a remarkable woman, and I’m very glad that I was able to visit with her last week, and take my sons for a last visit.

But I was thinking yesterday, that there were so many things about her I didn’t know, and now I would never have the chance. Your post today really confirms in me that its the people in our lives that matter. Thanks for writing.

How timely. Just last evening my husband and I said our goodbyes to a dear uncle who is battling cancer. He is rapidly declining and not expected to last more than a few days. He is 65, just the age he should be free to start living his life on his own terms. Despite that, he is an inspiration, talking only of the wonderful life he was able to live and the love of his family.

Great post; I liked it a lot. I’m going to call both my elderly Grandmothers today.

Incidentally, I don’t have a wife either, but that didn’t stop me fully appreciating and understanding the sentiment behind the words.

The majority of the posts on TSD don’t relate to me directly, yet I still find myself on the site regularly.

I find it annoying how people put so much stock into how their significant others treat them on Valentine’s Day (or their birthday or anniversary). They should be more concerned about how they are treated on days when society doesn’t tell everyone they have to treat their loved ones specially.

So true people – today is the day! Take it from someone whose parents and grandparents are gone…you never know how much time you’ll get with anyone. So tell your spouse, your kids, everyone who means something to you. And don’t just tell them, show them, and spend time with them. I guarantee you won’t regret it later. I certainly don’t :-)

I might have found this a lot more compelling if you hadn’t just pulled the same “I’m doing you a favor by not writing a real blog post, so you can take the time you would other have spent reading this and go to XYZ” trick just a month ago. I hope this doesn’t turn into a regular feature.
