I’ve found–ironically–that people who don’t think it’s worth the effort to stoop for pennies on the ground up generally have money problems.

To me, pennies on the ground are a metaphor. I *always* pick them up as an act of gratitude.

To keep up with this penny discussion, I love going to the coinstar and dumping my jar into it. You never really expect what you’re going to get but then it jumps up there and before you know it, you can go have a great night out :)

My mom always said to leave pennies you see on the ground for kids to find. A kid can derive more joy from finding a penny than I ever will.

I also enjoy cashing in my change to get a nice $30 or $40 chunk of “spendable” money. But if someone offered me $30 to stoop 3000 times, I’m not sure whether I’d go for it or not…

I have to agree…we collect change too and it just doesn’t feel like real money until it’s spendable – when it’s deposited into our account.

*sigh* so literal, George. I think he means he has $30 TO SPEND that he didn’t have before. You can’t take a jar of pennies to the hardware store and expect to pay for a sheet of drywall, or whatever, with it – without really annoying the cashier. But you can take it to your bank and deposit it into your savings account, or turn it into folding money which merchants would be much happier to see.

Trent – $30 in pennies is still $30, regardless of whether you “cash them in”. Pennies are valid currency, unlike redeemable bottles/cans.
