Hey, Trent! I just wanted to say I appreciate the link to my article on the graduated tithe. I'd like to hear more about what you think of it. It's not my idea - just something I came across. Why do you think it goes a little far?

I have also attempted to write a novel recently, but have encountered the same issue in that I later hated what I had written. It has happened three times in the past three months with three different novels. I'll begin to write and think it's going well until I go back a day or two later. I then start to criticize the heck out of it and end up convincing myself that no one would want to read it but me. I'm a perfectionist, so the writing process is difficult enough because I am constantly going back and rewriting sections. I don't know if this is common, but at least I see that I'm not alone.

I actually didn't like the Baker's article, but that's because I kind of disagree with semantics. I don't think "work" should be a negative word. I should be able to say "I'm going to work today" and still be excited and happy and motivated. There's nothing wrong with having children know that teaching is work, writing is work, heck even doing laundry and washing dishes is work. And, everyone does have to do work of some kind every day. It's just that "work" isn't some evil boogeyman to be avoided at all costs. It's kind of like school. If you hate school, of course "school" becomes a dirty word. But if you like your teacher, the subject matter is fun and engaging, great environment - then of course you like school! And you can do this without eliminating the word "school" - you've just changed it from a negative word to a positive word. I just don't see why "work" has to be such a negative word.

I got a totally different concept from bakers story. Instead of calling the things necessary to living work he calls them by their name. ie teaching.

So, when you tell your tots you're writing you're doing exactly what he says!

Making your necessary tasks seem positive instead of drudgery is something we should all do!

Love Love Love the first 2 chapters, and I wanted it to go on! I didn't want to stop reading! I really liked the details and background in the first chaper. Amazing how things that happen in our childhood affect our entire lives. Makes you think. Can't wait to see what happens next!

Thank you for linking to the "graduated tithe" article. I've been donating 1/3 of every raise I get to charity (although not for religious reasons), and the article reminded me that I hadn't yet increased my donation to account for my most recent raise.

I admire your ability to throw away 10,000 words and start over -- I have large sections I don't like but I'm plowing through on NaNo -- of course, this year I decided to handwrite and just thinking about dropping all those hand cramping words -- not gonna happen. Have fun writing.
