@2 Gail: The law should require that every high school should require a passing grade in a course devoted to personal finance as a prerequisite for graduation.
I reviewed this book for savings.com and had a chance to communicate directly with the author. He's a really nice guy and practices what he preaches (lives in Japan).

He predicted (rightly!) that the healthcare bill would not pass in any form that was helpful to the individual. The only time laws are passed in this country that benefit the people, they benefit big business more. There's a financial motivation behind every great law ever passed here.

This book really shook me up and helped me put away my rose colored glasses. I scrutinize every bit of news, information or writing that comes my way now to consider the source. Is this person trying to pick my pocket?

I had a very hard time reconciling his view of America and my personal feelings of patriotism. In the end, I realized that a true patriot would fight to get her country back from the large corporations and special interests that are steering this ship into an iceberg!

This book looks interesting to me. I like the more sarcastic/cynical personal finance books, they seem interesting. Especially ones that go into the psychology of overspending and on marketing and social impacts that keep people on the treadmill. I also like the idea of the 80% of take home pay.

When I went to the book store I saw it was only in hardcover, which sucks. I will wait for paperback!
