I find it odd that shifting from blue collar parents to white collar self is challenging. I think the challenge is breaking free from bad habit learned during a financially irresponsible/ignorant upbringing to becoming skilled and savvy at handling money as an adult. Having moved from no-collar to blue-collar to white-collar, how one perceives their money is far more important than how one perceives their place in society.

It is refreshing to see a financial professional recommend saving a considerable chunk of income. I'm surprised that so few "financial advisors" don't suggest their clients save as much as possible - it benefits both the advisor and the client.

Another book in this genre is "limbo", which talks about the trials of being the first generation to enter the middle class professional world. It speaks more to the emotional challenges, but it touches on the financial as well. As a first generation white collar person myself I found it reassuring the way it described many insecurities as commonplace among those who climb the ladder.
