I can imagine that the interruptions in your day have to do with children. Been there, done that. Time is on your side because children grow up and they interrupt less until one day they are gone and you have all the time you need. It's called seasons of life! With little ones you are in the busiest season of life. Each season has it's annoyances and joys. Focus on the joys, because the time goes by fast when you're looking back.
About the TV. I gave it almost 30 years ago when I discovered that I was totally discontented with my life because it wasn't glamorous or excited and I certainly wasn't as well dressed and rich as those portrayed in the shows. I haven't missed it a bit (well maybe a little-I love PBS Masterpiece Theater which I can now watch online when it is something that interests me). And the commercials are irritating and nowadays not what I want my children watching. I prefer to introduce subjects of a personal or sexual nature to my children at an appropriate and in the context of our religious beliefs.

Until a few years ago when I overheard a heated argument about ketchup in the grocery store, I had no idea that it was a product people were brand loyal about. I amusedly commented to my roommate about what I'd heard and he informed me that he was strictly brand loyal about it. At the time I had no idea what brand was in the fridge. It never occurred to me to that they might not all taste identical and it still surprises me to know that so many people pay attention.

Now I'm semi-loyal in that I only buy organic, but I use it rarely and will buy whatever organic brand is available or cheapest.

I'm so glad that your little fella is feeling better. Thanks for letting us know.

Interesting article about the most critical hour. I like the suggestion to start the work day on a big project. When I've just arrived at the office, I've had time to think about my big projects and my juices are flowing when I reach my desk. Nonetheless, I wouldn't dare skip checking phone and email messages before rolling up my shirt sleeves as all too often one of the messages will involve a change in the project. Who wants to spend an hour on a project, only to later listen to a message that contains a material change? Valleycat1 has the right idea about knowing your work flow and understanding what part of the day you are at your most productive.

Re Pick the Brain's "most critical hour." Not everyone can pull this off first thing in the morning. And I'm not convinced the timing is quite as critical as that you find the time to do some of these things at some point, preferably at a fairly set time each day.

So if your first hour of the day is full of interruptions & other events, maybe your most critical hour could be right before or after lunch, or at the end of your work day. Many moms find it to be the last hour of the awake day, after the kids are in bed. I know a couple of people whose brains just don't kick in until after lunch, but they get more done in the 4 hours in the afternoon than anyone else does in a full day. Not everyone is a morning person.

I find that taking the final hour, or half hour, of a workday to reach logical stopping points & do some prep work for the next day often works better than trying to block out everyone else that first hour in the morning. When I'm into the 'gym workout' groove, going there directly after work works better than trying to squeeze in time in the morning.
