Bummer about the site. Going through the same thing- due to a personal situation, my co-author backed out of our 2/3 done book that already had a publisher. I am too discouraged and exhausted to finish it, at least for now.

About “A grocery shopping hiatus”: my partner and I did this, sort of on accident. We ended up going an ///entire month/// without doing any grocery shopping save for a couple of small trips for fresh veggies and milk. Even THEN we still had about a 1/4 full freezer and the pantry still wasn’t entirely bare.

Sorry to hear your board game site won’t be launching anytime soon. I will console myself with the happiness of recently learning that a piece of glass or plexiglass can fit over loose Catan hexes, making set-up feel a lot more classy.

More on ‘hating your job’: It also depends on what it is you hate about it – the actual work you are doing, the work load, the schedule, co-workers, the boss, the office culture, etc. Part of growing up, IMO, is learning to deal gracefully with the less than ideal – and knowing when ‘less than ideal’ morphs into ‘unacceptably bad.’ There a more options beyond staying in a job you hate vs. getting away from it.

Stay motivated when you hate your job: Maybe the situation is bad enough that it’s time to be planning to depart, but in the meantime, you can usually find some small part of the job that isn’t completely awful, or some skills you can hone – practicing how to deal with a hateful job situation, specific job-related skills that will help you move on, etc. I was in the *bad job* situation years ago when The Joy of Working book first came out & I found it helpful in finding ways to tolerate & even enjoy where I was, even though I did eventually leave.
