I totally agree with the technology time 'eaters.' I was spending far too much time on games on Facebook (Farmville, to be precise), and I decided I wasn't using my time (read as LIFE) to the best advantage, so I sent out a note on Facebook, hoping all of my farm neighbors would see it and then deleted the application from my Facebook page. Instant recapture of my time. I love it.

I've heard a lot about this book, but haven't personally read it yet.

I know the principle- basically tackle the largest task you have first, right? That way you get it out of sight and out of mind and can move on to finish your tasks while you've got momentum.

This is my kind of book! I sustained a traumatic brain injury (TBI) seven years ago and concentration is not my strong suit at all. Much of my therapy involved learning to prioritize (ABCDEF) and slice and dice tasks. Closing all programs on the computer (especially FB and email) except the one I'm working on was another coping mechanism that was drilled into me.

Another book along these same lines which really helped me (and I'm sure other, non-brain injured people!) is Surviving Information Overload by Kevin Miller. http://www.amazon.com/Surviving-Information-Overload-Clear-Practical/dp/031025115X

I have a couple methods to deal with procrastination.

I make a deal with myself to do just one small step at a time in a task. Maybe it is a house-painting task. So today I will just gather up all my tools and materials, but not actually any the work. Tomorrow I start the day dressing in painting clothes. This is along the lines of "do the behavior, the feelings will follow." Usually once do a few small actions, I start to actually feel like doing the task.

Another thing I do is try to pair the task with something pleasant. For me this usually pairing the activity with some form of entertainment. I might take my favorite CD with me when I use my exercise bike. I might schedule that painting task when a favorite radio show comes on.

Last night my daughter asked me to alter some slacks for her before she returned to college. It turned out to be a very complicated alteration to do. I put on a streaming Netflix on my laptop and finished the job before the movie was done.

If 80% of the work can be done with 20% of the effort, than you can get 80% of that 80% for only 20% of that 20%. And if that's true than you can get 80% of 80% of 80% of that work can be done with 20% of 20% of 20% of that effort. This rounds out to 51% of the results with less than 1% of the effort!

Yeah right.
