It would be interesting to know.

I sent a link of that speech to my boyfriend. His son is 22 and really struggling with finding his own path. He did a quarter at community college and dropped out. He lost one job and wound up working day labor. I wanted to let my boyfriend know that his son is not a lost cause. Some people just take a little time to find themselves and what they learn along the way can be very valuable.

The son has enrolled in community college again next quarter. He may not know what he wants to do yet, but at least he has a better idea of what he doesn't want to do.

a very moving post, thanks for sharing it.
my cousin (we are one month apart in age, recent 50 yr.olds) has the same cancer. he is a 3 yr. survivior as of last month. it was discovered when he was experiencing back pain. he has had multiple surgeries after the initial one to remove the tumor. he eventually had to step down from a career he loved very much. he is a very spiritual person, humble by nature, family oriented, and considers each day spent with them a blessing.
after reading this i can't help but think steve jobs would have traded every last dollar he had to still be here with his family.

Oh, and ..we lost a visionary. I feel the loss. And I have known others like him. But not all are as chaarismatic, or successful. It is a rare, rare thing, to have the intellect, and the vision, along with the Pied Piper personality. Rare indeed. It can move mountains.

Tonight TNT has preempted regular programming for "Pirates Of Silicon Valley", back to back showings. It is the story of Jobs and Gates. Great movie- I own it. In my high school media arts class last year- 100% o my students watched the Jobs presentation of the iPad. None of them watched the first Presidential address of Obama- the same night. Half of them had already ordered one. Early adaptors.

Trent, thank you so much for this post on Steve Jobs. If you hadn't written it, it's likely I'd never have read it. I shared the link with a Google retirement group that I moderate as I believe his words will be an inspiration to all, regardless of their age.

Among my favorite parts: "And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary." Amen.

I'm having a very tough day today.
I've worked for the company for 20+ years and first met Steve back in the early 90s when I was just starting out and he was still in the wilderness.
He is by far the most charismatic person I have ever met, handsdown. It's almost impossible to describe.
And working in the valley I've met most of them. Ellison, Gates, Grove, Noyce, Hewlett & Packard (when I was a small child and my dad worked for them).
And I remember Sculley saying when Steve came back "It was always Steve's company, even when he wasn't there" So true then and even truer today.

The campus is very sad today, for all of us and for his young family.
RIP, Steve.

Inspiration somes from different places and people and he certainly was inspiring. I think his biggest contribution was making computers more accessible to all of us. He also changed the music industry as wel as the computer industry. Knowing he was dying, he still worked to change the world.
