I'd recommend TMM by Dave Ramsey too as a starter, and Your Money or Your Life too.

Those are both excellent motivational books to getting your financial life in the right direction (eg, get out of debt and focusing on saving and not spending on items that fail to bring pleasure/value to your life).

Suze's Young, Broke and Fabulous I'm not sure about as I haven't read, but I've skimmed through and it seems to be like a blog in a book...lots of graphics and talking points bolded. Maybe better if he's not very bookish? Good luck!

Brittany - Suze Orman also has a book targeted to young people. You can look at Amazon for these 2 recommended, and see 'what other people bought', pretty good reviews, and Amazon's suggestions of similar books, to find one or two that might fit your cousin well.

@Brittany: The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey changed my perspective on money. I first read it when I was probably 25 or so. It's an easy read, and more motivational, which might be a good thing.

Looks like a potentially good starter for someone already on the right track. Anyone have any good suggestions for a young person /wanting/ to be on the right track, but who isn't quite there yet? It seems this workbook is for people who have their spending under control and are starting more holistic and long-term planning.

I have a cousin who makes good money but, until recently, spent really frivolously (and has huge student loans). He finds himself unexpectedly expecting a baby and is really motivated to get his spending and overall finances under control, but isn't sure where to start. I've been sharing advice and articles (at his request) but am thinking of giving a more comprehensive book for christmas. Any reader suggestions?
