Spending the money on an LED for areas where the light will rarely be used is the worst possible way to make use of this technology. You don’t stand a chance of ever recouping the original cost.

I recently bought some LEDs to use in a light fixture that is high and difficult to reach (even from a ladder). I got the bulbs from Costco (3 for 18.99) and am very pleased with the quality of the light. In fact I had one bulb left over so I put it in another fixture (with 5 bulbs) and you can’t tell which of the 5 is the LED based on the light output. I hope not to have to change a bulb in the fixture for at least 10 years!

An inexpensive incandescent can go in those rarely lit areas. Don’t spend $40 for an LED when a 25 cent bulb will do the same job, produce the most useful light, last for years and only use a dollar or two of electricity.

So… you recommend buying the most expensive bulb to use in a place where you rarely need light, which you suggest is a good idea because the light from an LED bulb is lousy. Uh, is this frugal? Or make any sense at all?
