When we do this we always get a water as well. I know that from a ethical standpoint it is technically wrong, but I know i’m not hurting the bottom line of the company because the cost of soda is literally pennies vs. their profit on it.

True, teachers don’t exactly make a ton of money, but they generally make enough to live within their income.

Your sister-in-law has been coddled a little too much. She’s in her fifties, it’s time to grow up and learn to accept responsibility for herself.
