I'm in favor of the penny being eliminated.

However, I am kind of confused by the idea that spending more money to make a penny than its monetary value is somehow wasteful. A penny is used many many times over its life time. The 2.5 cents a coin is an investment into its durability.

I just think they should be eliminated because they don't really make much sense in the scale of costs we have now.

This is a test - It seems that my first comment on an article is always lost. This is the 3rd time it has happened (on different articles). The last time it happened, I made a 2nd comment that showed up. Lets see if that happens this time.

Do you know what happens to all those phones that are discarded after being used only 2 years? It boggles my mind that you would propose someone do that when they want a phone they can depend on for more than 2 years. I've had my phone for over 4 already and it still works fine. Why would I 'upgrade,' even for a free phone, if I truly didn't need to? Such waste.
