The Simple Dollar’s Review
Like the Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express, this card is designed to save you lots of money on your everyday purchases. You get 3% cash-back at U.S. supermarkets for up to $6,000 per year in purchases, 2% cash-back at gas stations and some U.S. department stores, and 1% cash-back on other purchases. The card offers decent signup perks too: 0% intro APR for 12 months and a $100 rebate when you spend $1,000 in the first 3 months.
Essentially, this card is a simpler version of the Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express, which has a $75 annual fee but offers double the cash-back (6%) on grocery store purchases. The Blue Cash Everyday® from American Express doesn’t have an annual fee, but the extra cash-back on groceries with the Preferred card can make up for it – you’ll earn $180 with the Everyday card for your first $6,000 in grocery store purchases and $360 with the Preferred card. Basically it comes down to preference: would you rather save an additional $180 on groceries, or have an extra $75 to spend however you like?
It’s important to note that the cash-back is unlimited, so this card carries some serious bang for your buck if you do a lot of driving. In short, if you put all your food and grocery purchases on this card and pay your balance each month, you’re bound to save some money.
You’ve had your first credit card for a while now and you’ve been using it responsibly. You’re thinking it’s time to add a second one. This might be a good idea, but whether you should – and which one you should choose – depends on many factors. Taking out a second credit card can help you build up your credit...
