The Simple Dollar’s Review
If you your lifestyle involves a lot of driving and grocery shopping and you don’t leave the country too often, then this card can save you some serious cash. You earn 6% cash-back on grocery store purchases, 3% back at gas stations and some department stores, and 1% back on everything else. That’s not bad at all, but there is a small catch: there’s a $75 annual fee. As long as you use the card enough, the savings will far outweigh the fee. The cash-back on grocery stores is capped at $6,000 in purchases per year, so this means $360 dollars in savings on your grocery bill if you reach the max (which shouldn’t be a problem for most American families); plus, you still get 1% cash-back after hitting the $6,000 mark. The 3% cash-back on gas and 1% on everything else are unlimited; so they can add up to major savings as well, especially for serious commuters.
In addition to the savings, the card offers a full range of standard benefits, including roadside assistance, car rental insurance, fraud liability, travel insurance, and 0% introductory APR. There is a 2.7% foreign transaction fee, however, so this card may not be the best for people who spend a lot of time out of the country.
All in all, Blue Cash Preferred will help you realize more savings on daily essentials than any other credit card. Just remember to use the card often enough — otherwise the annual fee may not be worth it. Read more about the card details at the American Express website.
