Happy Thanksgiving from The Simple Dollar

Today, I’m spending the day with my family, enjoying some turkey, taking a nap, playing a few games, and kibbitzing with people I love.

Wherever you are today (whether you’re in the United States or not), take a moment to look at the good things in your life and ask yourself what you can do the rest of the year to help and preserve those things.

A very Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, Trent … and a sincere Thank-You from a grateful and more frugal (because of TSD) reader in SoCal!

Also, a special thanks to your wife, who undoubtedly makes sacrifices on a regular basis in terms of keeping things running smoothly at home and filling in the gaps, so that you are able to devote the time needed to make TSD the valuable resource it is. :o)

Happy Thanksgiving! I wanted to share a great quote I read recently: “Not what we say about our blessings, but how we use them, is the true measure of our thanksgiving.” -W.T. Purkiser

Thanks for all your knowledge Trent!

  5. I’m one of those crazy rest-of-the-world peeps (from the wonderful land of Australia) but I may as well join in this good ol’ thanking craze.

I’m sitting here in beautiful weather, my “office” is a large desk in a wide open space, and I’ve spent the morning playing piano and eating. I’m thankful for it. :-)

What makes American prosperity and happiness possible is our freedom. Until now, we have had freedom to choose what job to take, where to live, what books to read, what car to drive, what doctor to see, what medicines to take, what to eat, what to wear, what we may say in public. We have the freedom to keep a portion of our own earnings. We have a strong military to protect us so we may pursue our lives and our choices. These are men and women who sacrifice their time, their lives, their health, sometimes their limbs and their sanity, to keep us free. Freedom has given Americans the greatest nation the world has ever seen, with the greatest opportunities for success for anyone who chooses to seize an opportunity and work hard. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT WE FACE THE THREATS FROM WITHIN OUR GOVERNMENT TO OUR INDIVIDUAL LIBERTIES AND BE PREPARED TO FIGHT, TO THE DEATH, IF NEED BE, TO PRESERVE THESE RIGHTS AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR FUTURE AMERICANS. I am thankful for The United States Of America, the most perfect nation ever devised, a shining beacon to the rest of the world. Let us protect our country from tyrany within our own government.

    Happy Thanksgiving.

I sincerely hope you are not kibitzing with the people you love as they probably wouldn’t like it.

I’m glad your Thanksgiving was so good. My family are all far away, so I spent part of the day at my church serving dinner to the community. All people who cannot afford a big dinner or are alone can come in and eat a big free meal. We also delivered to shut-ins. You could give a donation if you so wished. The people of our church brought in all the food and served it. There was plenty left. We had a lovely visit we people we see every day and those we see not so often. A wonderful way to be thankful for our bounty and our friends.

I’m thankful that the grocery stores near our house have fresh turkey for $.29 a pound! I just got our 2nd bird roasted, deboned and stored in the fridge. Just remember you can use turkey for anything that you use chicken for! We’ve already had turkey salad, turkey ala king and turkey soup. Turkey and rice, turkey pot pie and turkey curry are yet to come!
