Out With The Old, In With The New: Turn Off the Distractions for a Day

Throughout the month of December, The Simple Dollar is posting a daily series focusing on specific activities you can do right now to set the stage for a great 2011. Out with the old, in with the new.

25. Turn off the distractions for a day.

It’s Christmas day. Right now, there’s a mountain of snow outside and a bunch of children enjoying their Christmas gifts inside.

Instead of spending my time texting people who aren’t bothering to be with me or browsing the internet while in a houseful of people who are choosing to spend their time with me, I think I’ll play with some of my kids’ toys with them, get in a game of cards with my siblings, and go sledding down a big hill with my kids.

Turn off the distractions for a day and have some experiences instead. Tomorrow, when you text and hit Facebook, you’ll have something exciting to write about.

  1. You have to think about shutting off texting and internet to concentrate on those who have TRAVELED TO BE WITH YOU IN PERSON? Seems like good manners to me. If you prefer to text and internet on Christmas Day, don’t have any guests! Then you can text or meail those persons instead of having them in your house.
