The Simple Dollar Morning Roundup: Avoiding the Weather Edition

Last night, we checked the weather and realized that if we waited until Wednesday for our long Thanksgiving holiday car trip, we might run into some seriously nasty weather, so we packed up things and headed out about sixteen hours early. It was a good move, I think, but I am dead tired right now.

    Thats the one good thing about having no family nearby: holidays all to myself! Gets kinda lonely though…

    On another note, the advice about increasing your skill set is great. Anyone have good ideas what’s in demand right now?

    @Sam

    Sales skills are always in demand. I know of several guys who didn’t graduate from college, yet their sales abilities have them earning well over $400,000 per year selling lumber and building materials.

    If you’re not a sales type (and not everyone is), anything in the technology sector is in demand now and will probably continue to be for years to come.

    Management skills (the ability to accomplish work though others) are always in demand.

    Just my 2 cents

    Well it’s been snowing hard in Des Moines all day, there are a couple inches on the ground now, so I’d say you made a good choice.

  4. Heidi says:

    It’s snowing big white flakes where I am – I bet there’s three inches on my deck right now. You made a smart move.

  5. I can see why people were upset at the free iPhone article. Many people already do a lot of those things, so it doesn’t really add up to additional savings for them.
