The Simple Dollar Morning Roundup: Boomsday Edition

I just finished reading Boomsday by Christopher Buckley. The novel relates a presidential campaign geared to get the young to vote. How? One candidate advocates a “Boomsday” – in other words, a euthanasia of all Baby Boomers when they reach age 75. That’s one way to solve the Social Security woes! Anyway, on to personal finance news.

How To Save Money On Magazines My best tip in this area is to ask yourself if you really read the magazine at all, and if you don’t, then stop getting it. I have problems in that area. (@ money smart life)

In Boomsday were the planning to stop this euthanasia once all the baby boomers were gone and Gen X were the oldest? Cos that could be a vote winner.

I’m a student, and my stipend comes from a fellowship and thus is not counted as “earned income” for the purposes of investing in an IRA. I’m so angry at the government for this rule!

Liked the dishwaser tip. I’m one of those who always washes the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. Guess I got that habit from my mother. Anyway, I just put in a load from last night without even rinsing them a little. Some of them are pretty dirty. Curious to see whether or not they’ll be clean. Also ran the sink water for about 15 seconds.

  4. Thanks for the mention.

Thanks for the link Trent! And yes, if you are maxing out both, you are beating everyone.

However, maxing out both might not be the right decision, it’s all up to your personal situation.
