The Simple Dollar Morning Roundup: Brazen Careerist Giveaway Edition

I’m still attempting to give away my copy of Brazen Careerist. I’ve now drawn three winners and asked them to give me back a mailing address in 72 hours and none of the three responded. The giveaway hasn’t been forgotten, but apparently many of the people are on vacation (and apparently at least one entrant has quit her job since the contest happened, because her email bounced).

WWYD: Would You Risk Your Life To Get Out Of Debt? Not in a million years – the thought of my children growing up without a parent is far worse than any financial debt I might incur. However, there may be a risk/reward balance here that would work for some people in different situations. (@ queercents)

10 Inexpensive Things You Could Do This Summer I could write a similar list just within Iowa … we have the Field of Dreams and the Bridges of Madison County here. (@ consumerism commentary)

Is It Time To Let My Car Go? Almost always, if you’ve reached the point of seriously asking this question (meaning not just lusting for a brand new replacement for your two year old car), the answer is yes. (@ money, matter, and more musings)

The Simple Dollar Retro: Why I Keep Cash Under My Mattress I had a lot of fun with this one, but the title is true: I do keep some cash under my figurative mattress (actually not under the mattress per se, but cash in the house). Why? You’ll have to read it to find out…

  1. Trent, I have had similar problems with my giveaways, but my issue is that not enough people enter the giveaway to make it mysterious as to who will win. I have a giveaway still going on that I will probably extend for a free copy of Windows Vista Home Premium and only a few people have entered. Maybe people see that more of a hassle than a prize.

By the way, I miss Iowa. I spent my undergrad career at there; two years at Grinnell and the last two at Univ of Iowa. Ahh, life was so much simpler out there.
