The Simple Dollar Morning Roundup: Delicious Burgers Edition

So here’s what I went with with the burgers: I mixed some Mexican blend grated cheese with the hamburger and put in a tiny bit of salt and pepper and a few dashes of hot sauce. The burgers were incredible. Even my seventeen month old went “Mmmmmm!” We just ate burgers with a salad for dinner, and it was fantastic. So here are some personal finance posts.

The End Of My Credit Card Arbitrage (Or Why I Hate Discover) This is exactly why credit card arbitrage is dangerous – you’re adding a lot of risk and sometimes when you take on risk things outside your control happen even if you cover everything you possibly can. (@ lazy man and money)

Ugh, dethatching sucks! I did that last year right after we moved in since the previous owners let the yard go to hell by never raking leaves or maintaining correct grass height.

It was one of the most painstaking jobs I’ve done. Our lawn is about a third of an acre and it took forever to do. That being said, as you mentioned the lawn filled out in the summer beautifully and we received many compliments on it.

    Thanks for the mention Trent!

I actually JUST came in from dethatching with the power rake. That still took 3.5 hours to finish (plus the 4 hours it took me to manually dethatch last week). 90% of the time was raking up the thatch and the rest was running the machine.

I had 15 full yard bags of thatch for .21 acres (probably only .06-.09 of open yard).

Public transportation didn’t solve that problem for me when I was in my teens – I live in rural-middle-of-nowhere-land. I couldn’t get a job until after I was in college, and finally had access to a car.
