The Simple Dollar Morning Roundup: Super C Edition

When I was a little kid, one of my favorite video games was called Contra. In it, you played a soldier battling an alien invasion in the jungle – you ran to the right, aliens ran at you, and you shot at them. I played this game with one of my cousins for hours upon hours, and we also played the sequel, Super C, to death. Well, Super C recently was released for download on my Wii and I decided to purchase it. Talk about a pure nostalgia rush – the time I’ve already spent playing it (maybe an hour) has been well worth the cost of the game, from the simple enjoyment to the huge nostalgia rush.

We downloaded Contra on Xbox – it was so fun to play it with my sister when she came to visit – we used to play it so much when we were kids!

Don’t worry, I can’t justify spending $60 on Halo 3, either. I’ll stick with the sequel to the original humans-shooting-aliens game until Halo 3 winds up in a bargain bin at Wal-mart. Plus, last I checked, XBOX doesnt have the coveted Game Genie.

How much does it generally cost to download a Wii game(ie mario bros, or super mario bros)? Do you have to have a land phone line to download Wii games?

I will never forget the night my best friend Scott and I were given a handful of quarters to play the Contra arcade game at our local Chi-Chi’s while our parents sat around after dinner enjoying drinks.

On a measly couple bucks, we actually beat the entire game and the sense of accomplishment was completely beyond words. Good times.

Glad to see you’re getting your money’s worth out of the Wii. As soon as I can score one for less than $200, I’m gonna be picking one up.

  5. Looks like JLP and I have the same goals :). Also, the only game being played at our home now is World of Warcraft. But only one of us plays it and it ain’t me…

  6. Contra absolutely owned my junior high scool years during the late ’80s and is still one of my faves to this day. In fact, I sill hook up my NES to my Commodore 64 monitor and go alien hunting from time to time. Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start!
