The Simple Dollar Morning Roundup: Tom Osborne Edition

For anyone who lives in Nebraska or in any state bordering Nebraska, the fact that Tom Osborne got rehired at the University of Nebraska is ridiculously big news. I know I’ve fielded somewhere around twenty five emails in the last day on the topic from various people. It’s basically the equivalent of Chrysler bringing back Lee Iacocca to run the show, or GE dusting off Jack Welch.

Yikes! Wal-Mart! I don’t like cheap new stuff from China that will have to be replaced in a few years (and may be contaminated with Heaven-knows what), I like heavy old stuff from the US that will last essentially forever. The answer? Buy used! Tons of great used kitchenware, much of it like new, is available every weekend at flea markets and garage sales. Cast iron, corning ware, stainless and copper pots, heavy glass and ceramic dishes, stainless utensils…dirt cheap and after a washing (and re-seasoning in the case of the cast iron) as good as new, and often better than what you can buy new.

Wow! Good to see we’re not the only one’s buzzing about T.O.’s return! This was the last place I’d expect to see mention of it, though. Way to get our attention before alerting us to that excellent kitchen article!

    Great TO is back…

It’s been awhile since the Huskers have been in the news for beating any women or being involved in any shootings…

With TO back we can get back to those rich traditions…

If the price for winning at this level is hiring criminal thugs from out of state then we are better off losing.

From a former Husker, glad to see TO back. Go Big Red!!
